What
are Predicitive Dialers?
So
what is a predictive dialer?
If you asked five people what a predictive dialer was you could
end up with 5 different answers. A predictive dialer is a centralized
autodialer that automatically makes a large number of calls and
when it finds someone answering the phone it transfers it to a telemarketer.
Although the hardware is usually expensive its very sophicated and
with the right predicitive dialer software can detect busy signal,
time out ringing after a period of time in the case of no answer,
detect answer machines and of course detect when a real person has
answered the call. As soon as the predicitive dialer detects a real
person it transfers the call to a live telemarketer.
This
is where it gets a bit tricky
The predicitive dialer needs to calculate how often to places calls
so that it makes enough calls to minimise the wait time for a telemarketer
who is sitting there idle yet not make too many calls that it ends
up dropping them. Perhaps you have experienced this when you answer
a call only to find after you say hello you hear a click
and then dead air. Not nice to be on the receiving end. In fact
most countries have stringent rules that regulate exactly how many
calls you are permitted to drop and if you drop too many you can
face large fines or the threat of being closed down.
Advantages
of Predicitive Dialers
If
you have enough telemarketers then it may be advantages to use a
Predictive Dialer in your call center. There is a much high cost
per telemarketer to set up a call center with a predicitive dialer
but if you have more than 50 telemarketers then the predictive dialer
option should be considered along side the preview or demand dialing
alternative.
The
main advantage is that telemarketers do not need to listen to busy
signal or wait for no answers so in theory they should achieve higher
through put in calls. If you have a small call center especially
if you have less than 12 telemarketers then we dont think
you should look at predictive dialers.
Disdvantages
of Predicitive Dialers
There
are some major disadvantages with Predictive Dialers. Here
are are some of them:
- Drop
calls when no agents ready to take the call.
- You
need to have a larger call center to start to seeing benefits
from the predictive nature of the dialer.
- More
expensive e.g. $2000 per seat compared to $250 per seat.
- More
complicated to install.
- More
complicated to manage.
- Larger
learning curve.
- Burns
through leads.
Alternative
to Predicitive Dialers
The
alternative to predictive dialers is to use a demand dialer or preview
dialer in your call center. Although a Predictive Dialer (with auto
dialing) may give higher through put demand dialing solutions brings
a happy balance between productivity and cost.
